On the second day of my stay at Ritz-Carlton Cancun, my friends and I had the delicious breakfast buffet in El Cafe Mexicano before making our way out to the beach villa. We spend most of the day alternating between relaxing inside the villa, in the shade, and sunbathing in the lounge chairs in front of the villa. Occasionally, we got into the pool to cool off, but we never strayed too far from our beloved beach villa.
We had spa treatments scheduled for late-afternoon so we opted to have lunch in the beach villa. We ordered a Chicken Caesar Wrap and chicken wings to go with our afternoon snack of chips & salsa. The chicken wings do not have sauce on them so they basically arrive at your table as fried chicken. The sauces are served on the side. The breading on the chicken is excellent and it makes it some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever tasted. And I grew up in the South where people know how to make good fried chicken. The wrap was also delicious but was slightly overshadowed by the incredibly tasty wings.
When it was time to leave the beach and go to the spa, we were so jealous of all the people that got to stay on the beach while we were inside. Then we thought about it and realized that the people on the beach would probably be jealous of us living it up in the spa. We walked into the spa and totally forgot about the beach. From the second we arrived at Kayantá spa, we had at least one spa attendant looking out for us. I got the Renacer Facial and the Energizing Leg & Foot Massage, a total of 80 minutes worth of treatments. My friend got the Four Hands Massage, where 2 people give you a full-body massage at once. It sounds fantastic but my friend described it as “it was like being massaged by synchronized swimmers”, since the massage therapists did the exact same thing on opposite sides of her body. She found it hard to relax and thought the massage would be better if one person was massaging the upper body while another person was doing legs & feet. I had never had a facial before but found it to be very relaxing. I was also delighted to learn that my skin was in great shape, especially since I had turned another year older just one day before the treatment. The leg and foot massage was lovely but it felt a little rushed, since it’s only a 25-minute treatment. I was quite pleased with both of my treatments and by the professionalism of the staff.
After our spa treatments, my friend and I were escorted to the relaxation room, where we sat in chaise lounges and were covered with warm blankets. We were also given hot tea & warm neck pillows, to further enhance our state of relaxation. We relaxed for about 30 minutes and then moved on to the steam room. Then, we changed into our swimsuits and went to the outdoor area and got into the hot tub. There is also a tub filled with water than is freezing cold. It was so cold that I would not have been the least bit surprised to see ice floating in the tub. I could only stick a foot in the tub but my friend was brave enough (or stupid enough?) to fully submerge her body in the frigid water. She only stayed in the cold tub for a few seconds and, afterwards, was convinced she was having a heart attack from the shock of being in such cold water. She survived and was as good as new after a few more minutes in the hot tub, however. We eventually got out of the hot tub and relaxed in the outdoor lounge chairs for a while. We both started to get hungry so we moved back inside to shower and get ready for dinner. The spa has outdoor showers, which are beautiful, but my friend and I went inside to use the phenomenal 6-head showers instead. They have a normal shower head up top, but they also have 3 more shower heads on either side of the shower stall. I felt like I was showering in a car wash…but in a good way. We finished getting ready in the spa, since they had a hair dryer, body lotion, and other toiletries there. When we finally left the spa, we felt like new women, but we were too relaxed to go out to a restaurant. We ordered room service and watched television instead. As expected, it was another perfect day at the Ritz.
