Easter in Cape Town means a long weekend to celebrate the last of summer. For those sticking around the city, there are plenty of activities to indulge in and, of course, the usual beaches to lounge on in between.
For the fit (and aspiring), the Two Oceans Marathon (actually an ultra- marathon at 56km) tops the list. If you’re more likely to be spectating, there are plenty of opportunities as the route takes the runners around most of the peninsula. You’ll find that this annual event shapes the city on Saturday- roads are closed, fans are out in force, and the runners are the talk of the town.
If music is more your thing, make sure to check out the Cape Town International Jazz Festival with over 40 international and local artists. South Africa has a strong heritage of jazz musicians; some of the most popular, including Judith Sephuma and Vusi Mahlasela, will be performing at the festival. In addition to the concerts at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, a free concert at Green Market Square will showcase some of the top artists.
Finish of your Easter Sunday with the last concert in the Kirstenbosch Summer Concert Series. Make sure to book ahead, pack a picnic dinner, and enjoy live music in a stunning setting. A perfect conclusion to your Easter Sunday.
