Food on the Go: Chicago’s Food Trucks

Food, What's New — By adimarcial on August 13, 2010 at 4:23 am

Chicago is an eating and drinking city, keeping up with the latest trends in dining. But, it seems Chicago is running behind when it comes to food on the go. Cities across the country, including Austin, NYC, Los Angeles., are delivering food to the mouths of eager eaters off the back of their trucks, but the city of Chicago has prevented our best chefs from doing the same. This is truly unfortunate, because can you imagine how many more Chicagoans could experience the great city chefs, such as tacos by Rick Bayless (of Frontera Grill) or meatballs made by Phillip Foss for Lockwood (he really wants a meatball truck!)? However, recently the city passed a very exciting ordinance that is getting closer to allowing mobile food trucks to roam the city to satisfy our grumbling appetites!

So, if you are in the city and looking for some yummy food on the go, pull out your smart phone and locate one of these new Chicago mobile food trucks:

Gaztro-Wagon – serves up original “naan-whiches”

Flirty Cupcakes – delivering creative cupcakes across Chicago

Hummingbird Kitchen – They are still waiting for a license from Evanston (just north of Chicago), but they will be serving burgers and ribs
