Lizard King Resort: My Favorite Cafe in Puerto Viejo de Limon
Food — By Sophia LaMonica on December 21, 2011 at 3:09 amI won’t deny that I’ve become a bit spoiled and occasionally am the recipient of special treatment, but all insider perks aside, it’s still easy as pie to declare the Lizard King Resort my favorite cafe in Puerto Viejo de Limon. Spend a week in Puerto Viejo, a month, or even a year, and I gladly challenge you to find a better favorite spot. That’s not to say that there aren’t plenty of other very good cafes that are ever-vying for attention with charming barristas, creative chefs and tempting happy hours, places to grab a bite that I’ll gladly recommend to friends and family and even enjoy frequenting, but truly there is nowhere else I’d rather feast, celebrate, or just chill than in a cozy booth at the Lizard King Cafe.
While it was the Mexican Restaurante’s roster of favorites on the menu like chile rellenos and shrimp ceviche that caught my attention and reeled me in for more, these days it’s weekends of leisurely breakfasts of french toast or gallo pinto con hash de tocineta with export reserve Britt coffee that I cherish the most, and lunch specials like Ecuadorean chicken in mushroom sauce con papa or to-die-for-chili cheeseburgers have me salivating over the memories for months. Even when I’m feeling vegetarian again, I can always decide on something satisfying, like linguini rojo with garlic bread, or a caprese salad with basil from the backyard.
Depending on the weather and daily harvest, you may find olla de carne one afternoon, triple-decker breakfast club sandwiches the next, and sometimes Lily’s original handmade flan for dessert.
Whatever you’re in the mood for, even if it’s simply a fresh-squeezed organic lime margarita before noon, the Lizard King Resort has the best cafe for not just the best food, but a real taste of la pura vida in Puerto Viejo.
