Explore the fantastical worlds of stringed beasts, wooden swordsmen and sock princesses. The Puppet Animation Festival is the UK’s largest performing arts festival for children; it features more than 300 performances and events in more than 150 venues across the country, including Edinburgh and nearby Glasgow, Stirling and St. Andrews.

The Lost Sock Princess – Thursday, April 14 at 2:00p.m. at the WHALE Learning Centre
Why is Robin Hood wearing a dress? And is the Sheriff of Nottingham hiding behind that tree…or is it the big bad wolf? Two classic tales are combined in this delightful glove puppet show. Hilarity will ensue. Tickets: £6.50/£4.50.
Oscar and the Highland Castle - Thursday, April 21 at 10:30a.m. at North Edinburgh Arts Centre
Meet Oscar, a 12th century mouse who leaves his attic home to free an ancient castle from English rule. With the help of a spider and Nessie the sea monster, will Oscar restore Scotland’s independence? This Scottish folk tale, re-told with ultraviolet effects, shadow puppetry and upbeat music, will perk your child’s imagination. Tickets: £3.50/£2.50.
The Cloud Man – Friday, April 22 at 2p.m. at the Scottish Storytelling Centre
Cloudia always seems to have her head in the clouds. Her biggest wish is to catch a glimpse of a Cloud Man, an elusive creature who lives in the sky. Will she find him one day? The Scotsman describes this show as a “a startlingly imaginative feast.” Tickets: £6.50/£4.50.
