Florence has many neighborhoods that have gorgeous views of the enchanting city. I’m going highlight 3 hotels that can give you a glorious view of Florence. Mind you these hotels are rather pricey but in the low season perhaps it is a place that you can afford. It is always good to look at the difference between the high and low season. The flights might even be cheaper in the low season as well, another perk!
The first hotel I have picked is Antica Torre located on Via Tornabuoni. Now, Via Tornabuoni is the most expensive street in Florence, where Prada, Ferragamo and Gucci reside. That should give you a heads up on how special and one of a kind this hotel is. There are two places to stay at this historic hotel. One is “Antica Torre di via Tornabuoni n° 1” and the other is “Palazzo Gianfigliazzi”. This historic building was once owned by the Gianfigliazzi family during the 18th century. After the WWII, the building was restored to what it is now, Antica Torre. Rooms start from €160 a night to the Appartmento which starts from €270 a night. Two of the apartments offer the views of the Arno and Santo Spirito, the third apartment encompasses peace and serenity while it faces the courtyard.
My second choice is the 4-star hotel Hotel degli Orafi. James Ivory’s film “A Room with a View” was filmed in this hotel. But before it was a hotel is was an Augustinian convent, this building has the remains of an ancient medieval tower, later destroyed by the “Ghibellinis” in 1260. The rooftop terrace bar gives you sights that are beyond words. You can see the Arno River, the Georgofili Academy, the Palazzo Vecchio (the ancient residence of the Medici family), the Vasari Corridor & the Brunelleschi’s Dome. Being right on the river Arno, this hotel ain’t cheap. A single room starts at €180 however the room that James Ivory shot “A Room with a View” the room is by the same name, is around €720 for two night minium stay.
The rate includes:
One bottle of Italian sparkling wine and one fruit basket in your room, offered by the management.
Welcome drink upon arrival in our bar.
Your favourite newspaper in the morning.
It is also possible to arrange one tour of the city centre by horse-carriage starting from our hotel.
If you got the cash, it is a gorgeous and romantic suite.
My third hotel I recommend with a view is Hotel La Scaletta. Located on the Oltrarno, nearby are the Boboli Gardens, Ponte Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti. The rooftop terrace bar enlightens the soul with a view as far as the eye can see. It is open from May to October with a 360° view of Florence. Enjoy a cool cocktail or a nice afternoon reading a book after a long day of sightseeing. The room rates range from €54 to €219 a night. Remember to check for the low season, they are bound to be much cheaper.
Now a picture to sweeten the deal. Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of a rooftop terrace but here is a picture of my terrace.
This is a picture taken from a friend’s apartment looking over Florence. He lives on the top floor so it is kind of like a rooftop terrace view. 🙂
