Gelato Gelato Gelato everywhere!  A dream of mine is to be among every type of gelato.  My dream has come true.  This is the first gelato festival in Florence.  It will be spread among many of the main piazze around town.  They are expecting 300,000 visitors for this hope-to-be annual festival in the future.  People will be able to participate in workshops on how gelato is made, visit an exhibit on the origin, and plus there will be many games and activities for the kiddies.

Entrance is completely free, plus there are taste cards you can purchase online or at the Info points in Piazza SS Annunziata and Piazza S Giovanni di Firenze during the festival or at the bookshop at the tourist office in Piazza della Stazione 4 from 25th – 31st May, 10.00 – 14.00.  The cards can also be purchased at ice cream shops participating in the festival.  You can collect your online purchased card at the Info points by presenting your email confirmation and an ID document.  One taste card costs €1.  A five taste card costs €5.

The piazze participating in this very refreshing event are: Piazza SS Annunziata, Piazza San Giovanni, Piazza della Repubblica(Caffe`Giubbe Rosse), Piazza Strozzi, Palazzo Vecchio.

Other gelaterie that are participating are:

Gelateria Serafino – Piazzetta Salvemini

Gelateria Carabè – Piazzetta delle Belle Arti

Gelateria Carapina – Piazza de’ Salterelli

Gelateria Grom – Via del Campanile

Gelateria La Carraia – Lungarno Soderini and Piazza Nazario Sauro

Gelateria Perchè No – Via dei Tavolini

On 29th May a dinner will be held at the Palagio della Parte Guelfa.  All the dishes served will be Tuscan and the theme, as you would expect, will be ice cream.  You can obtain further information and book by emailing:

According to the festival’s website, these are the reasons why Florence needs an annual gelato event:

  1. Currently there is no world event celebrating gelato.
  2. Everyone likes gelato and each Italian family spends €82 per year on the product.
  3. Gelato is important in the culinary history of Florence.
  4. It was a member of the Medici family, Caterina de’ Medici, who had gelato exported and thus it became more widely known.
  5. And finally, the best news of all – gelato is good for you!

The Firenze Gelato Festival starts on May 28th- May 31st.

May 28th-May 30th from 10:00am-11:00pm

May 31st from 10:00am – 3:00pm

You shouldn’t miss this event! GELATO GELATO EVERYWHERE!!
