Travel Tips, What's New — By katiegreenaway on June 8, 2010 at 11:54 amStarting in September 2010, there will be a new ‘city card’ offered for 33 museums and free public transport for 72 hours. Mayor Matteo Renzi with the helps of the head Italy’s museums, the head of Florence’s Polo Museale believes that this card will help tourists enjoy the city a bit more.
The card will give entrance, just to name a few, Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi and Accademia galleries, Palazzo Pitti and the Boboli Gardens, Opificio delle Pietre Dure, Museo Archeologico, Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the Museo Stibbert, Horne, and Bardini museums and the Brancacci Chapel. At this time the card allows entrance to about 65 percent of museums but they hope to widen the parameter of museums in the future.
With the purchase of the card, you will skip lines at museums and have unlimited use of public tranportations, plus the Tramvia, for 3 days. The cost of the new ‘city card’ is €50. (BTW-there is no formal name for this card yet, will let you know when there is one.)
