Countdown to Bastille Day July 14!

What's New — By Sonja Holverson on July 13, 2010 at 1:35 pm

Take your places, it’s almost time for the celebration of the end of the French Revolution  with huge firework displays  which will take place everywhere around Lake Geneva.  Since the border of France and Switzerland runs right down the middle of the lake, you can be sure there is a great deal “culture merging.” So don’t think that the fireworks will only take place on the French side. They’ll be everywhere! However, for a closer view you can get to France from almost any direction from Geneva. Head for the Jura in the countryside drive along the French shore of the lake and find a good spot to watch the fireworks which start around 10:00 or after dark. Just ask a local French person where to park. Join the in the local bistros and terraces for more celebrating. The weather is hot and the atmosphere is festive. After all, it was a major accomplishment for the French to “eliminate” Queen Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI and start their own democratic Republic! Sante!
