Lan Kwai Fong Beer Fest: What You Missed

Not even a spot of torrential rain could dampen the spirits of the party goers to the 7th annual Lan Kwai Fong Beer Fest. The party, which kicked off at 1pm on Saturday, lasted the entire weekend.

Activities on offer included beer pong, arm wrestling, an eating competition, and the biggest draw of Saturday night – the Miss Lan Kwai Fong contest. Each of the promotional girls from the various beer companies battled it out to prove that their beer was the best. At times it felt less like a pageant and more like an advertorial but nevertheless it was a highly entertaining spectacle. There were also street vendors on hand selling everything from yards of beer on string, to handmade jewelry – the essentials for a good night out apparently.

The afternoons had a family friendly vibe to them and there were lots of kids running around. However, as day turned into dusk, and the children went home to bed, LKF really came alive. The dubiously named “shot syringes” came out and the beer began to take effect.  Unfortunately, the monsoon rain threatened to turn Saturday night into an extract from Ricky Martin’s Livin La Vida Loca video – although with less coordinated dancing. The wet look was most definitely in this year. The organisers’ wish for “an oasis in hot summer” was somewhat optimistic, although Sunday’s clear skies made up for it.

All in all, a great day (and night) out – good clean family fun. Bring on next year.

Nice! I love playing beer pong. It is generally the most fun activity I do with my friends every night!
