Istanbul Fashion Day 2010
Events, What's New — By Aysegul Surenkok on August 30, 2010 at 8:15 amIstanbul Fashion Days are unfortunately over, but its aura is still surrounding the city. Over the weekend, fashionistas, designers and the fans all got together on Istanbul Technical University’s Taşkışla Campus. Istanbul Technical University initiated a new fashion program since about 5 years ago. The program involves studying at two schools at the same time and receiving two diplomas at the end. The program has been initiated under the name “SUNY” as it involves cooperation with the New York State University (SUNY). Students who get accepted to the program study a year and a half in Turkey. They then apply to FIT in New York for their spring and summer sessions. Students who get accepted go to FIT for nine months. Coming back, the same students continue their education in Turkey at Istanbul Technical University. After their third year, they reapply to FIT for their final year. All in all it is a “one year here-one there program”. Students who successfully meet the criteria of both schools receive two diplomas.
Istanbul Technical University has thus become the fashion representative of fashion in Istanbul. The Istanbul Fashion Days are being celebrated for the second time in the city. Fashion events are re-occuring since year 2008 under different names and sponsorships. One other event that gets confused with these Days are the Weeks. There is also the Istanbul Fashion Week, which was celebrated in February this year. But, part of each organization pronounces the Technical University and its students.
Viva fashion, viva Istanbul.
