Well, of course I knew I lived in the best city in the Middle East, but now the powers-that-be at Travel and Leisure Magazine have named Jerusalem as the #1 city in Africa and the Middle East. (The last time Jerusalem made #1 was back in 2000).

Beating out Cape Town, Tel Aviv, Amman, Marrakesh and Petra, Jerusalem was chosen for ” sights, culture/arts, restaurants/food, people, shopping, value.”

Mt Zion, Jerusalem

All the things that Nileguide Jerusalem has been telling you about…if you were thinking about a trip to Jerusalem, now is the time to get over here, before the hordes descend.

Just yesterday, the Israel Ministry of Tourism announced that 1.6 million tourists visited Israel in the first half of 2010 – an all-time record and an increase of 39% over the same period in 2009 and 10% in 2008 (Israel’s previous record year for tourism). June 2010 was also a new record, with 259,000 tourists visiting, an increase of 24% over 2009 and 8% over June 2008.
