Best Cheap Eats
Food — By srajah on November 8, 2011 at 9:40 pmYou can eat very cheaply in KL city. There are countless options – simply pick your favorite type of flavor and cuisine. Simple kopitiams (coffee shops), restaurants and hawker stalls contribute to the city’s popular street food culture. Be prepared to pull out a stool on roadside pavements and sample some of the best meals you’ll ever have.
Here are my top two favorites –

Jalan Alor
I keep returning to Jalan Alor for its buzzing character and cheap yet delicious food. The woks are stirred and chefs churn out gems such as grilled sting ray, oh-chien (oyster omelet), satay, rojak (tropical fruits mixed with savory peanut sauce), Hokkien fried noodles and barbeque chicken wings. If you fancy something more exotic – there’s frog porridge and crispy fried pig intestines. If you’re a first timer to Jalan Alor – it can be a tad overwhelming but most places carry menus in English, complete with pictures of the dishes served.
Seri Nirvana Maju
I go to Nirvana for my weekly fix – imagine delicious curries drizzled over steaming white rice, and served with accompaniments such as vegetables, poppadum crackers and chicken varuval (dried spicy chicken). Roll up your sleeves and eat away using your hands. That’s how we do it- it’s the best way to savor this South Indian meal. Do anticipate a bit of a wait as this popular joint attracts mile long lines especially at lunch.
