Reno/Lake Tahoe for Burners

Events, Nightlife, Travel Tips, What's New — By christinanellemann on August 6, 2010 at 9:00 am

The Man burns in 28 days.

Anyone who has ever been to Burning Man knows what that means: the clock is ticking, and its time to get ready for one of the largest parties on Earth. Even though the counter-culture celebration in the desert known as Burning Man is about 150 miles away from Lake Tahoe, the Reno/Tahoe area is an important stop for people (Burners) on their way to burn the Man.

Enough has been written about how to plan for, pack for, and play during the the week-long celebration to fill a book, so I don’t need to cover that. However, I will mention a few “Burner-friendly” places within the Reno/Tahoe area that love to cater to visitors on their way to the Black Rock Desert.

Burner Friendly Hotels in the Reno/Tahoe area:

These hotels have Burner Specials before, during and after the Burning Man week.

Pyramid Lake is a great place to camp before and after the event, but be sure to purchase a camping and visitors permit at the tribal office before driving into the area.

Most Reno/Tahoe stores such as Wal-Mart, Target, grocery stores, thrift and antique stores will have a Burner section up front and center starting about four weeks before the event. In these sections can be found lighting supplies, fun clothing and hats, bottled water, food and camping supplies.
