Tahoe Blues

Things to Do, Travel Tips — By christinanellemann on April 27, 2011 at 7:45 am

Lake Tahoe has a reputation for its famous, deep blue water and bluebird sky, but there are other things at the lake that are also blue. Take a trip around the lake to experience the other “blue” things that Tahoe has to offer.

Blues and Jazz on the Lake

Several bars and cafés at the lake have live blues and jazz music on the weekends including the Fat Cat Café in Tahoe City, Moody’s Bistro in Truckee and the Divided Sky in Meyers.

Blue Angel Cafe Blue Plate Special

Visit the Blue Angel Café in South Lake Tahoe for their Blue Plate Lunch Special. For $6 you can get the daily special without busting your budget.

Blueberry Pancakes

The Fire Sign Cafe between Homewood and Tahoe City serves up a heaping dish of blueberry pancakes which is perfect for carbo-loading before hiking the local mountains or enjoying some snowshoeing.

Keep Tahoe Blue Margarita

The Latin restaurant Caliente! in Kings Beach serves up a large and deep blue drink called the Keep Tahoe Blue Margarita made with Gran Centenario AZUL tequila.

Steller’s Jay

These raucous, but beautiful blue birds with black mohawks are common around the lake in the summer and fall. They are rarely afraid of humans and will sometimes hop onto your picnic table or beach blanket begging and screeching for handouts. Feeding them is discouraged, but they will most likely find scraps at campgrounds or picnic areas.
