Lake Tahoe has been a hotbed of eco-conscious people for years. Most Tahoe residents strive to keep the beautiful blue lake and the surrounding forest and mountains pristine and available for future generations. With spring coming to the mountains, this is a perfect time to highlight five green businesses that service the Tahoe area and its visitors.

Bite Restaurant & Bar
Bite in Incline Village serves tapas, wine and craft beer along with an organic, sustainable vision. They strive to use local, in-season foods and cook everything from scratch. Even the cocktails use fresh, local ingredients.

Truckee River Sanctuary
If you are visiting the Tahoe area and are tired of your basic hotel or bed and breakfast, spend a night at this micro-farm near Historic Downtown Truckee.

Svadhyaya Yoga
This small yoga studio in Zephyr Cove integrates the natural area with their practice. Many of the yoga classes take place on a local beach or in a meadow in the mountains, so you can get a lungful of fresh air with each breath.

Thrifty Hippy
This fun and funky second-hand shop in South Lake Tahoe sells used and unique clothes, jewelry and household items. Every month, they also donate 10 percent of their profits to a different charity.

Gaia-Licious
The little shop in South Lake Tahoe offers a relaxed and inspirational shopping experience and sells clothing, gifts, body care products, music and books. They specialize in fair trade and eco-friendly products made by local artisans.
