Things to Do, What's New — By christinanellemann on June 17, 2011 at 7:00 am

This summer, Lake Tahoe is featuring several free concerts that are perfect for visiting families on a budget. The concerts are held on both weekdays and weekends and take place at various park and beach locations around the lake. So bring your blanket and picnic basket and enjoy some tunes in the mountains.

The Concerts on Commons Beach

Commons Beach in Tahoe City has a fun line-up for their Sunday afternoon concerts. The music includes blues, zydeco, local acts, and much more. This year the musicians featured will include the Blues Monsters, Mumbo Gumbo, Hot Buttered Rum, and the Trey Stone Band.

Valhalla Summer Jazz in the Park Series

This concert series takes place on the Grand Lawn at the Tallac Historic Site on the South Shore. Starting June 19 until the end of August, a variety of Jazz musicians will let loose near the shoreline of Lake Tahoe. You are encouraged to bring low lawn chairs and your own food and drink. The event is free, but donations are appreciated.

Brews, Jazz & Funk Festival

If you don’t mind spending a little cash, Squaw Valley USA will be holding the 10th annual Brews, Jazz & Funk Festival which features live music from numerous acts on August 13-14. The $5 entry fee will benefit the Human Society of Truckee-Tahoe. Featured performers this year will include Walter “Wolfman” Washington & The Roadmasters, Papa Grows Funk, and Mike Mangan’s Big Organ Trio.
