Reading Up On Las Vegas

What's New — By thmeeks on March 25, 2010 at 1:03 am

If you’re in Las Vegas or planning a trip to “Sin City,” you’ll want to know all about the latest events, headline acts, and interesting local news. Luckily, Las Vegas has a good selection of news sources, including two local newspapers and two weekly alternative papers. On the web, one of Las Vegas’ top-rated news stations maintains a website stuffed with information about what’s happening in town. For the latest buzz about Las Vegas, you’ll want to read:

1. The Las Vegas Review Journal. It’s the city’s largest newspaper. On Fridays, the RJ publishes a guide to local happenings in its Neon section.

2. The Las Vegas Sun. Published as a section inside the Review Journal, this newspaper won a Pulitzer Prize in 2009. Since the Sun’s print version is limited to a single-section insert in the RJ, its online edition has more content than the print version.

3. Las Vegas Weekly is one of two free alternative weekly papers published every Thursday. It covers Las Vegas nightlife, music, adults-only entertainment, and, to a lesser extent, local news. You’ll find detailed information on local clubs, from what hours they’re open to cover charges. Las Vegas Weekly is for an adult audience and includes a big section in the back with ads for escort and massage services, so don’t let the kids thumb through it.

4. CityLife is the other alternative weekly. Like Las Vegas Weekly, it carries detailed information about local clubs, music, and events. CityLife’s content is slanted a little more toward locals, with more coverage of politics and news. It also has an adults-only orientation.

5. LasVegasNow is local station KLAS Channel 8′s website. It’s filled with local news, an events calendar, an entertainment guide, real-time information on traffic, and McCarren Airport flight information.
