Watching the 2010 FIFA World Cup in Las Vegas

Things to Do — By thmeeks on June 4, 2010 at 12:04 am

Millions of fans around the world are gearing up for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, held in South Africa this year, which starts on June 11 and ends July 11. Soccer lovers who are in Las Vegas during the tournament can catch the games at any sportsbook, that portion of the casino devoted to sports of every kind. But if you want to settle in with drinks, food, and some other soccer fans, you’ll want to look beyond the sportsbook.

The ESPN Zone at New York-New York will carry the games in 3D. During the first round, they’ll be open at 7:00 a.m. so soccer devotees won’t miss a thing. After mid-week, however, ESPN Zone is closing its Las Vegas location, so you’ll have to move on to another viewing location.  The Crown & Anchor British Pub, which is just a couple of miles east of the MGM Grand, is open 24/7 and is one of Las Vegas’ most enthusiastic locations to watch the World Cup. It’s one of the few places in Las Vegas that goes all-out for the World Cup. Lagasse’s Stadium, in the Palazzo, is a sports bar that serves Emeril Lagasse’s food in a state-of-the-art setting that includes over 100 HD televisions. Reservations are suggested at Lagasse’s Stadium, and some days of the tournament are already booked.

Patrons at both the ESPN Zone and Crown & Anchor can also enjoy free Wi-Fi, just in case you need to stay connected to do things like checking the schedule of games. England vs. USA is on Saturday, June 12, at 11:30 a.m. Las Vegas time, for those who are interested.
