On December 15, the Las Vegas Strip’s newest hotel casino opens, which is why it’s the subject of today’s Photo Friday. The Cosmopolitan, located next to the Bellagio, is the only new Strip hotel opening in 2010. The hotel has almost 3,000 rooms, 13 restaurants, a casino (of course), and the Marquee Nightclub–a new place to party from the same people behind Tao and Lavo. On December 31, The Cosmopolitan will host a New Year’s Eve concert featuring Jay Z and Coldplay, making it one of the Strip’s hottest spots for Las Vegas’ biggest holiday.
Originally envisioned as a Hyatt back in 2005 when construction began, the Cosmopolitan faltered when the recession hit the Strip hard. In an unusual move, Deutsche Bank took over the still-in-construction hotel casino after foreclosing on the property. Deutsche’s controversial move has been enough to keep the Cosmopolitan (now associated with Marriott) in the news, and the hotel’s new television ads–featuring chicks, bunnies, and kittens in ways that make you worry about hidden messages–are catching plenty of attention, which is a good thing for Las Vegas’ newest addition.
