Travelers to Louisville are lucky — the airport is a 10-minute drive from downtown Louisville (the bus takes a little longer). Since public transportation is limited, there are only a few options for getting from gate to hotel room.
When you exit the airport from the lower level, the first lane of traffic is for personal vehicles. If your friends and family are picking you up, look for them here. Across this lane, there is a traffic island with colored, labeled pillars designating where you should go to wait if you’re taking a shuttle, taxi, or the bus.

Cabs and limos – Travelers can catch a cab at the taxi stand, indicated by the yellow pillar. Ready Cab (502-417-4406) and Yellow Cab (502-417-4406) are the cab companies authorized to provide service to the airport. According to their websites, Ready Cab’s maximum fare for the airport to downtown trip is $18.85; Yellow Cab’s is $17. Limousines can also be arranged. A list of limo companies is available on the airport website.
Public transit – The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) number 2 bus runs from the airport to downtown about once an hour on weekdays and once every hour and a half on the weekend. Schedules are available at the information booth at the lower level. The bus stops at the island at the east end of the passenger pick-up area (the last pillar, which is red). Bus fare is $1.50, and riders must have exact change. The ride downtown takes about 30 minutes.
Courtesy vans – If you’re staying in a hotel, check to see if it offers airport pick-up (shuttles stop by the green pillar). Travelers can call for pick-up from the phones near the information booth. A list of hotels and motels with shuttle service is also available on the airport site.
Renting a car – Rental car company desks are located on the lower level by baggage claim. If you’re driving yourself, leaving the airport, you’ll want to follow the signs for Downtown Louisville, 264 East and I-65 North (downtown Louisville is the main one to look for and follow). The airport exit to connect to the interstate first takes you west before you turn around to go east, but just follow those signs.
