Madrid Has Everything, Plus A Beach?
Events — By Sarah E. Rogers on August 31, 2010 at 10:30 amThe sheer variety of things to do and stuff to buy in Madrid is outstanding. I like to say that Madrid has everything. Everything I could ever want… except a beach that is.
Yet for a week Madrid could pretend that it had a beach in the city too. In what is popularly known as Plaza de La Luna–a square hidden behind Gran Vía–a mobile phone company built a temporary beach.
The white sand “beach” and beach bar was open to the public with capacity for 500. A big screen displayed beach images and sunsets, a DJ played summer tunes, kids built sand castles, and some of the occupants of the beach chairs got massages by professional masseuses.
Like a real Spanish beach in August, Madrid’s temporary one was rather crowded with people having a good time…
