Spain’s Rafael Nadal is currently the number one tennis player in the world. Here in a country traditionally more passionate about soccer than tennis, the twenty-something from Mallorca is a much beloved icon. He’s also infamously known for biting his trophies!
This year at the Madrid Open tennis tournament, set for April 29 to May 8 in Madrid, people are predicting a repeat performance of the last two years: with a final duel between Roger Federer, from Switzerland, and Spanish champ Rafa Nadal.
In addition to the men’s competition, the Madrid Open tournament will have women’s and doubles competitions. Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki is the favored female player for this tournament, but you’ll also see popular top-rated players like Russia’s Maria Sharapova and American sisters Venus Williams and Serena Williams.
The Madrid Open tennis tournament will be held at Madrid’s modern Caja Mágica space from April 29 to May 8. For more information about the Madrid Open (in English), go to http://www.madrid-open.com/en/.
