Romance and good food definitely go together. If you’re romancing a new sweetheart, treating your current one to a nice night out, or celebrating an anniversary, I’ve got five romantic Moab restaurants for you to consider. Make a reservation at one of these places and spend a dreamy evening making goo-goo eyes at one another while you enjoy a delicious repast. Remember to bring the flowers and wear your heart on your sleeve.
The Desert Bistro is the place for an elegant, classy evening out. Open March-October, their menu changes throughout to reflect the seasons. They serve fancy dishes sure to impress your dining companion, such as their Grilled Marinated Pork Tenderloin with Apple and Chipotle Pepper Sauce, Twice-Baked Apple Potato, and Sauteed Vegetables. Be sure to make a reservation; the Desert Bistro can get busy on weekend or holiday nights. Dress up and savor the chic atmosphere.
For scenery, you can’t find a better restaurant than the Sunset Grill. Situated in the mansion once belonging to “Uranium King” Charlie Steen, you find it by driving up a long, winding road until you’re high above Moab. From here, this romantic restaurant commands an impressive view. If it’s warm, sit on the patio for unparalleled vistas. The menu equals the views: try the Roasted Duck, Linguine Olivia, or the Texas-style Prime Rib to satisfy your palate. The atmosphere is graceful without being stuffy, and the exacting meal presentation is very worthy of an evening possibly filled with soulful gazing at your loved one.
Located on the premises of the upscale Red Cliffs Lodge, the Cowboy Grill offers a very different but also outstanding view: the rushing Colorado River. Inside the huge dining room, you’re surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows that dramatically showcase the river and the red cliffs just outside. Or if the weather cooperates, head for the deck or patio seating and dine with the pungent scents of the desert all around. The onsite, award-winning Castle Creek Winery provides vinos filled with complementary desert terroir to go with your meal. Try the Outlaw Red with a hearty steak, or the Lily Rose White with wild game.
If your love enjoys a good steak but is conscientious about sustainability, head for the swanky (but still low-key) Jeffrey’s Steakhouse. This relatively new restaurant serves American-style wagyu beef, or super yummy delicious in more basic parlance. Their Ghost Bar is just the spot for a grown-up drink as you wait for your table. Shady patio seating is available for warm nights, but the dining room is sophisticated and decorated in soothing colors that are meant to enhance your whole dining experience. Come here if you really want to impress your date.
Sorrel River Grill
The Sorrel River Ranch is a luxurious place to stay, and they built a posh yet casual restaurant to go with it. The Sorrel River Grill has an overall atmosphere of luxury, but true to the nature of Moab, it’s never overpowering. The Colorado River burbles by the restaurant’s balcony, and the tasteful dining room surrounds you in sophistication. Try their Blackened Ahi Tuna or Vegetable Crepes, and don’t forget to order a Sorrel, Pea and Leek Soup or Mushrooms with Chevre to start. Call ahead for a reservation so you can smoothly execute a very romantic dinner experience.
