Nightlife in Carmel

Nightlife — By mfitzsimmons on February 29, 2012 at 2:30 pm

Known world-wide for its picturesque beaches and 5-star dining, Carmel’s nightlife is rarely the subject of travel guides. However, while this town comes across as quiet and austere, it is in fact home to a rousing bar and late night eats scene. Here are a few of the best spots to grab a night cap and listen to some live music in this “low key” city by the sea:

Baja Cantina: This lively Mexican joint can really add zest to your night with eight house-special margaritas and over 60 different types of tequila. Decorated with hot rods and other auto memorabilia, the food here is definitely something to write home about. There’s a live band in house every night from Thursday through Saturday. Bring your dancing shoes, an empty stomach, and load up on bottles of water for the next morning.

Jack London’s Neighborhood Pub and Grill: Carmel locals flock to this watering hole when they need a spot to watch the game, have a pint, and eat a good meal. Jack London’s has the distinction of being the only restaurant in Carmel serving dinner past midnight, so if you are looking for a Louisiana-inspired or West Mex meal when all the other eateries in town have shut down, head to Jack London’s.

Flanagan’s Irish-American Pub: After a long day of sight seeing, there’s nothing like saddling up to the bar at a friendly neighborhood pub. Blow off some steam with premium draft beers, a hearty dinner, and a game of pool or darts at Flanagan’s. This place lives up to its name and serves a wide variety of traditional Celtic dishes as well as American favorites. Every Thursday is Karaoke Night so if you are in the mood to croon, Flanagan’s is the spot for you.
