Monterey isn’t all seafood and steak. It’s actually home to a wide array of restaurants specializing in vegetarian cuisine. Even if you do consider yourself a carnivore, the fresh, fiber-filled dishes served up by these Monterey eateries won’t have you craving animal protein. Here are the top two vegetarian spots to eat at in all of Monterey.

Ambrosia India Bistro uses only the freshest ingredients, pungent spices, and traditional cooking techniques to create a wide variety of dishes, many of which are vegetarian. The dishes here are as sexy as the intimate decor. With over 20 strictly vegetarian dishes and a bountiful vegan menu, Ambrosia provides tons of flavor and satisfying quantities for those who adhere to a no-meat diet.

For an array of vegetarian dishes to satisfy any craving, head to Tillie Gort’s Cafe in Pacific Grove. The restaurant as been nominated 21 times as the “Best Restaurant for Vegetarians” by the Monterey County Weekly, including this year. Tillie’s serves up a little bit of everything, due largely to the fact that it is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Lots of eggs, tofu, organic vegetables, and spices find their way onto the Tillie Gort’s menu. Don’t worry, they have meat dishes for your non-veg compatriots, too.
