Simple dates in Montreal, Canada’s romance capital
Things to Do — By jennhardy on April 6, 2010 at 8:51 pmMontreal could be the date capital of Canada.
This city is as close as North America gets to the romance of floating downstream on a Venetian gondola or holding hands in front of the Eiffel Tower.
Anything you choose to do in Montreal could be romantic, whether it is sharing a poutine on a terrasse or shopping for shoes on St. Catharine West.
In the summer, the streets are bustling with smiling, happy people in love. In the winter, those same couples walk down the street hand in hand (they just make sure to wear their mitts, scarves and toques!)
Even though this city is perfect for just about any date, here are a couple of simple, yet very romantic highlights:
Walk up Mount Royal
Getting to the top of Mount Royal is not too difficult (if need be, you could do it in heels) and the view of the city from the top is spectacular. Unless you are in touch with your wild, hippie side, avoid the hill on Sundays where there are lots of djembes, dreadlocks and hula-hoops.
BioDome
If you or your date is into critters, Montreal’s BioDome is where it’s at! Visit this museum comprised of multiple ecosystems to see live beavers, penguins, fancy birds and sweet tiny orange monkeys. There is also an Insectarium and Botanical garden. You can purchase admission to all three museums for a discounted rate.
Planetarium
Oh, the romance of star gazing. Not to mention that everyone likes to get a little cozy in the dark. There are all kinds of events happening there which you can get up to date on on their website.
Prato
If eating is your ideal date, hit up Prato . Prato’s pizza is made in a coal fired brick oven. The pizzas are huge, so there is plenty to share.
