Happy New Year! …and how to ensure a good party in Munich

(normally I should have a restaurant highlight as it’s Wednesday today, but this is interrupted because of the holidays…)

Munich has lots of fun during New Year’s eve.  To put it lightly, it becomes a war zone from around midnight until at least 2am as it is the only time of year that it is legal to set off fireworks in Germany.

So, if you’re in the country, whether you have fireworks or not, you probably want to find the nearest hill to watch them at midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Top spots to watch the fireworks include:

  1. The Olympic park
  2. Theresienwiese (the oktoberfest grounds)
  3. Luitpold Park (next to the scheidplatz subway station)

The major squares might be a suitable location as well, but further down on my list, and these include:  Odeonsplatz,Konigsplatz, Marienplatz, and Karlsplatz.

Have a good time and try to to blow yourself up!  See you next year!
