Augustiner am Platzl

Is that an attractive old beer hall directly across the street from the Hofbräu Haus?  Well, looks are not always as they seem.  The Augustiner am Platzl was opened just two years ago.

If you are looking for an “Authentic Bavarian Beer hall” this is not it.  If you are looking to have a beer and the Hofbräu Haus is ridiculously full, then this might just do the trick.  In fact, they serve the most popular beer in the city with a very nice atmosphere and even some decent food.  However, if a local tells you to visit “The Augustiner,” then you should have a look at last week’s restaurant.

The Food:  Traditional Bavarian food.

The Beer:   Augustiner beer is considered the local’s favorite as they sell more beer in Munich than any other.

The Price:  The prices here are quite standard for Bavarian restaurants downtown, a good meal is around €12, plus beer or other drinks.

The Atmosphere:  noisy and crowded, the way a beer hall should be.
