It’s asparagus season in Munich, which means there is literally asparagus everywhere. Spargelzeit (asparagus season) is a big deal here. It’s not the normal green asparagus either, but the white asparagus less common in most other parts of the world. The white asparagus is more bitter in flavor, but otherwise quite similar in taste and texture. If you’re not a fan of the white asparagus, there is also plenty of green asparagus too, so no worries there. During asparagus season you will find stands selling asparagus at nearly every square in the city of Munich. You can also find asparagus on the menu of every traditional Bavarian restaurant and even on the pizza at Pizza Hut!
Normally I would suggest sticking to the roast pork while you’re in Bavaria unless it is an extended stay, but I’ll make an exception for during Spargelzeit. If you’re a fan of asparagus, now is the time to visit and you can get your fill here for sure, I know I try to eat my weight in asparagus over the course of the spring.
