Iron chef fans, your hero is here in the Bay Area: Masaharu Morimoto opens Morimoto Napa this weekend in the now-hot Riverfront development downtown.

Iron Chef Morimoto Cooks Napa Cuisine

The menu will be as varied as you’d expect from this multi-talented chef, but Morimoto’s announcement listed a few specialty dishes such as fig tempura (foie gras-infused chunky peanut butter sauce), Duck Duck Goose (local duck five ways, gooseberry sauce), and an Asian-inspired variation on the all-American pork chop and applesauce (miso-marinated pork chop, warm bacon kimchi).

The first thing you’ll notice is the soothing riverside views; there’s even an outdoor patio practically over the water. High ceilings emphasized by wrought-iron chandeliers and a textured concrete bar give the dining room an airy modern feel.

Although most Napa restaurants give center stage to a wine list featuring local vintages, Morimoto plans to brew his own beer on site and offers a long list of artisanal sakes. Sacrilege or smart, defining move?
