Top Five Must-See Things to Do in Orlando

Things to Do — By Kristen Manieri on March 22, 2010 at 10:09 pm

Orlando is such a dream destination, especially for families, because there is just so darn much to do. Packed with sprawling theme parks, outlet malls, and world-class live shows, this place is buzzing with activity and excitement. While I haven’t actually counted, I’d guess that there are more than a hundred fun things to do. That being said, everyone has their favorites. Here’s a list, in my humble opinion, of Orlando’s Top Five Things to Do.

  1. Without a doubt, the most memorable, thrilling, and sensory-rich experience you can have in Orlando is at Discovery Cove. Unlike most theme parks where visitors simply view animals from behind thick walls of glass, visitors at Discovery Cove get up close and personal with dolphins, tropical fish, and harmless rays while swimming through several aquatic areas bordered by a white, sandy beach. Best of all, amenities, meals, beverages, and equipment are included in the admission price.
  2. If you want to see a show you’ll be talking about long after your trip, grab tickets to the Blue Man Group at Universal’s CityWalk. Part live music, part comedy, part stunts, Blue Man sets the zany theatrics of three colorful characters against a fabulous live soundtrack that will have you dancing in your seats. It’s difficult to peel your eyes off the stage glowing color and splashed with neon paint.
  3. La Nouba is another excellent choice when it comes to live entertainment. This thrilling mix of live music, dance and acrobatics is from the creators of Cirque Du Soleil. The show is an incredible and captivating adventure that everyone should experience at least once.
  4. Duh… Walt Disney World, of course… all four parks if you have the time. Here’s something you’ll never hear from someone leaving WDW – “That stunk.” When it comes to WOW, Disney has definitely cornered the market. Whether you visit Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Magical Kingdom, or Animal Kingdom, you will leave a happy camper (with sore feet).
  5. Visit Orlando’s downtown area. Although few tourists venture outside Disney and I-Drive, there’s actually a really nice downtown area for them to discover. Lake Eola Park is a picturesque spot for a stroll or a picnic, there’s lots of independent (and delicious restaurants), and a good number of local boutiques. There’s great nightlife too from quiet wine bars to rowdy nightclubs. Check out Church Street Station, Thornton Park, or Wall Street Plaza.
