Gaylord Palms Holiday Spectacular

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to be blogging about all the fabulous ways to celebrate the Holidays  in Orlando. I’m beginning this series with my favorite… Gaylord Palms’ Best of Florida Christmas. From now until January 2nd, this palatial resort will become a holiday headquarters as every inch of the property gets decked out in holiday cheer.

ICE! by Melanie Holtsman

The event’s signature component is ICE!, an 18,000 square-foot winter wonderland created from 2 million pounds of sculpted ice. The 30-foot ice slides will be back again but new this year will be the telling of the beloved story ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas depicted through the attraction’s intricately hand-carved monuments.

This frosty 9-degree setting is made comfortable with the help of the plush blue parkas guests use as they explore the icy setting. Still, be sure to dress appropriately; closed toe shoes are recommended. Of course, if you’d rather be completely immersed in the frigid temperatures, plan to join the Polar Bear Club by running through the attraction in your bathing suit. On December 4th only, members of these elite (and eccentric) group of adventurers will gain access to ICE! an hour before regular opening to participate in a polar plunge that will also benefit Children’s Miracle Network.

Adult tickets to ICE! start at $19 but the best way to save money is to purchase tickets online in advance AND plan to visit Monday – Thursday. Tickets are more expensive on the weekends.

New this year, Gaylord Palms has unveiled SNOW. 40 tons of snow has been brought in to create a winter playground complete with a snow play area, snow games, and snow cones, of course. There’s also a snow tubing slide…. weeeeeee. Sounds like fun! You can purchase an ICE! and SNOW combo ticket or purchase tickets to attractions separately.

What’s really awesome about Gaylord Palms during the holiday season is that you can have an absolutely wonderful ‘getting into the Christmas mood’ experience without spending a dime (beside the $12 for parking). That’s because the resort turns its 4.5 acre atrium into a holiday extravaganza featuring a ginormous Christmas tree, poinsettias everywhere the eyes can see, and live musical stage shows scheduled several times each day until January 2. You can also visit Santa or dine with Mrs. Claus.

GO… spend the day or an overnight exploring all the way’s Gaylord Palms has brought the North Pole to Orlando!
