Orlando’s New Indoor Surfing Attraction
Kid Friendly, Things to Do, What's New — By Kristen Manieri on November 30, 2010 at 7:27 amI’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to going in the ocean, especially when the weather starts to get a little cooler. But, I really want to learn to surf. What’s a girl to do?
Kissimmee’s Fantasy Surf has the solution. This new surfing facility lets surf lovers body board, knee board, or stand INDOORS as 15,000 gallons of water rushes through the surf simulator at about 30 miles per hour creating the perfect continual wave. No sharks, no salt water, no riptides, no problem.
It’s called Flowboarding and it’s quickly becoming one of the hottest new sports to sweep the nation. In fact, Sean Silveira, the 2010 U.S. FlowBoard Champion, is sponsored by Fantasy Surf and can sometimes be seen practicing at the 14,000 square foot facility.
Flowboarding is F.U.N. fun! Worried about a wipe-out? That’s the best part – the trampoline-like surface under the water gently bounces riders to the side where they can hop out and try again.
Flowboarding is not only a great preamble to hitting the real waves at Cocoa in the summer, but also an excellent way to master the same skills used in wake boarding and snow boarding – all without the risk of injury as you learn to gain balance and begin to cut and maneuver.
