Don’t mix up your Perths
Travel Tips — By Amanda Kendle on April 29, 2010 at 8:35 amI was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, and so for me this city of Perth is the original one – but if you travel elsewhere in the world, you might meet another opinion. In particular, the arguably “original” city of Perth is in Scotland, although with a population of under 45,000 people, it’s actually no longer officially known as a city. It’s still important for me, however, as my own city of Perth is named after this one.
But wait, as they say, there’s more. A few years ago on a trip around Tasmania I insisted on visiting another Perth – a town in the north-east of the state, near Launceston, with a population of around 2,000 people. It’s a sweet little place with a bunch of historic buildings, but of course it’s pretty small – not a patch on what I consider the real Perth – there are a whole lot more things to do here!
If you are planning a trip to Perth, then do plan your flights with just a touch of caution. I’ve never heard of it happening in the case of Perth, but have more than once heard of people booking flights to Sydney, Australia but ending up in Sydney, Canada. If you don’t want to end up in Tasmania or Scotland, just check that you’re headed to my beautiful hometown.
