If you want sunsets on your travels, and I’m talking beautiful sunsets, then Perth is the right destination for you. Perth is so (justifiably) proud of its sunsets that half of its long line of beaches belong to what is called the Sunset Coast (it even gets a Wikipedia entry)!
Within Australia, with most of the population living on the east coast, a west coast sunset over the ocean is pretty unique. Watching the sun set over Perth’s city skyline at the Swan River can be impressive, but the most gorgeous sunset views are definitely over the Indian Ocean. I’m lucky enough to live just a couple of miles from the coast and I try to get down to see the sunset as often as I can.
Tonight down near the Hillarys Boat Harbour the sunset was beautiful, as it often is. Here’s a shot of the wintery version of the sun setting into the Indian Ocean:
While watching these beautiful sunsets is obviously a great event, they only happen once a day … but don’t despair, I’ve created a guide for all the other interesting things there are to see and do on the Sunset Coast – check out my Top Tips for Perth’s Sunset Coast to get some ideas.
