Mundaring Truffle Festival Pompeii Style

In every corner of the Mundaring Truffle Festival punters gorged themselves silly. Buns filled with truffle infused fare were shoved into faces, truffled pasta was hoovered and brie was smeared with…well I’m sure you can guess.

The festival is officially over for another year! Although a few addicts may still be stumbling around in a haze much as the musky scent lingers across the Perth Hills.

Faint grumblings were heard about the entry fee of $10.00, and although there were additional charges for samples, it was good value as the truffle serves were generous to the point of obscene.

One of the most popular events was the Food Piazza where chefs from Must Winebar, Red Cabbage, Mondo Butchers, Mount Barker Chicken, Clarkes of North Beach, Incontro and sponsors The Loose Box cooked up dishes well and truly surpassing the entrance fee.

Naturally, Truffle Central was at the hub of it all with The Wine & Truffle Company’s prized ingredient available for sale. But if you missed out, Mondo Butchers in Inglewood and selected outlets are still selling them.

Events included cooking workshops, a truffle dog hunt, a long lunch (which was so excessive that it may still be going), food and wine conversations with Kate Lamont, a masterclass and lunch hosted by Poh, and a gourmet produce market.

The truly decadent basked at degustation dinners at the local Darlington Estate or the Loose Box. Also onsite was the Perth Hills Wine Show where tastings of over 100 local wines were all yours for $10.00, which did little to ease the maddening crowds. Each year the event becomes more extravagant so next time be prepared for a weekend the locals of Pompeii would even be impressed with.
