Support “The Big Issue” Vendors on Perth Streets

Visitors to Perth quite often ask me about the presence of men and women in flourescent yellow vests selling magazines. My answer is always immediate: buy a magazine from these people! They are vendors of The Big Issue,  a high quality magazine covering a wide variety of interesting topics, and the vendors are homeless or marginalised people who need a bit of a hand – they receive half of the cover price of every magazine they sell so you’re getting a good read and helping someone who needs it at the same time.

My regular Big Issue vendor stands on Oxford Street in ever-changing Leederville, but most of the vendors sell The Big Issue from areas in central Perth and Fremantle. You can check The Big Issue official Find a Vendor site to get more accurate locations but if you just stroll through the main streets you are bound to come across a Big Issue vendor anyway. I strongly recommend you pick up a copy and at the same time, have a chat with the vendor and ask him or her for some sightseeing tips – they spend all day talking to all kinds of people and are bound to have some good ideas.
