There’s no Starbucks in Perth … and I’ve heard one of the reasons for this is that our home-grown coffee shop chain, Dome, is so popular that the competition is too stiff. I have no idea if that’s really the case, but I’m proud just the same. The Dome coffee shop chain started up about twenty years ago and with over 40 shops in Perth, you are bound to run into one – and in fact, when you fly out of Perth it’s the most common place to wait at the airport before you head through the departure gate!
When you’re out and about in Perth, look out for the ubiquitous green Dome sign and head in for great coffee and snacks. Some of my favourite Dome cafes include the Dome in Fremantle, and the Dome at Hillarys Boat Harbour, which is currently expanding and always has great outdoor areas to enjoy your coffee or meal. And for perfect beachside location, you can’t go past the Dome over on Rottnest Island.
I especially recommend the risotto or the turkish bread sandwich options – because Dome is more than just a coffee shop. They also do great milkshakes. The small touches also distinguish Dome – they have heaps of magazines on offer for customers to read, and provide water for free for customers to serve themselves. If you’ve been to a Dome coffee shop, do give me your feedback in the comments below.
