1,000 events at 195 venues in 8 days!

It's Beer Week in Philly!

Once a year Philadelphia beer lovers unite to enjoy Beer Week, where restaurants, bars, and breweries around the city host special events to celebrate the (usually) golden liquid. Beer week this year happens to coincide with the Stanley Cup finals, so the week promises to be more exciting than ever. For a full list of daily events (and to make reservations, which are required at some of the events), go to the official Beer Week site. There are at least thirty events around town every single day, so I can’t even begin to summarize them, but here’s just a snapshot of some of the events each day that look particularly tasty.

Monday, June 7th:

“Brew ‘N History” at Christ Church Burial Ground, 3:30-4pm. This event is happening every weekday at the same time.

Flying Dog Quizzo with Johnny Goodtimes, known around town as the best Quizzo host ever. Really. For proof, check out his website (and read carefully, because there’s almost always a question based on something on the site). At P.O.P.E. (Pub on Passyunk East), 9pm-2am.

Meet 5 Belgian Brewers. Monk’s Cafe, 5:30-8:30pm.

And sorry, I have to include this event just for the title: Zany Rick Reed Of Cricket Hill Brewery Meets Roller Girls & Gives Away Shit. That’s really what the event is called, and your guess is as good as mine what’s going to happen there. At Fergie’s Pub, 6-10pm.

Tuesday, June 8th:

Beer Class: Barrel-Aged Beers with Tomme Arthur of The Lost Abbey/Port Brewing Company. At Tria Fermentation School, 1601 Walnut Street. 6:30-8pm. This one requires you to buy tickets.

Try some California brews at One of the Best from the West. At St. Stephen’s Green, 6-8pm.

5 Brewer Tasting and Reception – Captain Lawrence, Flying Fish, Stoudt’s, Yards and Brookyn. At Parc on Rittenhouse Square, 6-9pm.

Wednesday, June 9th:

Introduction to Home Brewing at Keystone Homebrew Supply Inc.
779 Bethlehem Pike, Montgomeryville, PA 18936. 7-10pm. Buy tickets here.

PBR Industry Bowling Tournament at North Bowl, 8pm-12am.

Local Brewers Pub Crawl – 7 Bars and 7 Brewers. Meet at Jose Pistola’s. 5pm-2am.

And another strange offering at Fergie’s: The matriarch of craft brewing, Carol Stoudt, runs a kissing booth. 5-7pm.

Mmm, beer.

Thursday, June 10th:

Dunk Tank! (Dunk a Philly beer celebrity for a good cause.) At London Grill, 2-4pm.

Meet the Brewers with a Firkin of Pimp My Rye! At Dock Street Brewing Company, 6-8pm.

French Beer Showcase at Caribou Cafe, 6-8pm.

A Wee Pub Crawl: Fergie (popular Philadelphia gastropub owner and man about town) will be joined by several beer dignitaries for a walkabout to all his bars. Starts at Fergie’s. 7pm-12am.

Friday,  June 11th:

Well, really all week: Prix Fixe Menu and beer pairings all week long at MidAtlantic Restaurant and Tap Room, 4pm-12am. $35.

Yards vs Harpoon. Phillies vs. Red Sox. At Rembrandt’s in Fairmount, 6-10pm.

No Repeat Beer Week (also all week) – new and unique beers featured at Memphis Taproom (that’s in Fishtown, which is north of Northern Liberties, for out-of-towners).

All Day Wood at Resurrection Ale House – an entire day of wood-aged beer from around the world.

Saturday, June 12th:

Battle of the Brewers at Devil’s Alley, 1-4pm. Buy tickets here.

Magic Hat Burlesque Bar crawl! Starts at Urban Saloon in Fairmount. 6:30-9pm.

For those of you with kids, don’t feel left out! Go to Ommegang Brunch and Children’s Sing-Along Hour at P.O.P.E., 11am-1pm.

Sunday, June 13th:

Flying Fish Exit Series Dinner with Brewer Casey Hughes. At Amada, 6-9pm. $65.

Finally, plenty of restaurants and bars are having “Kill the Keg” parties, so, again, be sure to read up on events on the Beer Week website.

Have fun!!
