You don’t have to spend a fortune to sleep comfortably in Phuket. In fact, you can find many hotels for under $30 right next to the beach.
If you’re on a very tight budget, your best choice is guesthouses. Many of the guesthouses offer free Wi-Fi. Although some places have dormitories, most guesthouses also have private rooms with en-suite bathrooms. For $12 to $15 a night, you can get a clean, simple room with a fan (no air conditioner). The Lamai Guesthouse (20/31-21 Sirirat Road) is just half a mile from Patong Beach and offers computers and free internet in each room for just $13 a night. For $15 you can get a room at G&B Guesthouse (Bangtonkhao Rd., Off Prabaramee Rd.), which is within walking distance to Patong Beach and offers a great rooftop deck with views of the sea and the city.
One step up in price are the budget hotels, which go for about $15 to $20 a night. Each room at the Seeka Boutique Resort (Nanai Rd.,Soi 8) goes for $14 a night and comes with a private balcony, free Wi-Fi and elegant Asian décor. The hotel also has a pool and a (very affordable) spa. For $20, you’ll get into the Lamai Inn (Lamai Inn), a very young, colorful hotel just 220 yards from Patong Beach. Other unique features of the hotel include a fish spa, a beauty shop and an in-house barber. Rooms come complete with bathtubs and free Wi-Fi, as well as DVD players and cable TV.
Still cheap but not extremely cheap hotels still abound in Phuket. The Patong Terrace Boutique Hotel (209/12-13 Rat-U-Thit Rd., Kathu), which only charges $24 a night, consistently gets superior rates by visitors. Less than 5-minutes away from the beachfront, the hotel has a rooftop terrace, free Wi-Fi, air conditioner in every room and tea/coffee making facilities. Rooms have rain-showers and flat screen TVs with cable.
