Prague’s movie stage heritage is well-known; films ranging from Mission: Impossible to The Bourne Identity have all had scenes shot in the City of a Thousand Spires. It’s not just directors and scenographers that take inspiration from Prague’s magic, but musicians too.

The latest singer to use Prague as a backdrop for a movie video was American rapper Kanye West. He was shooting footage to accompany his as yet untitled new album. Five years ago, he shot scenes for his music video Diamonds from Sierra Leone in the Old Town. Sharp-eyed West fans and Prague visitors can spot Charles Bridge, cobbled streets and the inside of a local church.

Radiohead groupies will want to keep their eyes open for a full-length concert film shot by some diehard Czech fans using cheap handheld cameras. Radiohead gave the enthusiasts the audio masters to complement their creative filming.

Australian group INXS brought the city of Prague to the western world at a time when many had never seen her streets. The video for their 1988 hit Never Tear Us Apart was shot in Prague, and is truly an amazing promo for the city. While in town, they also used the Art Nouveau Municipal House, which appears in their New Sensation video.
