Surf’s Up: Surfing Capital of the Caribbean

Things to Do, Travel Tips — By Melissa Alvarado Sierra on February 7, 2011 at 9:06 pm

Enjoyed mostly by locals, surfing beaches in Puerto Rico are renowned over the world. From beginner’s territory at Pine Grove beach in Isla Verde, to competitive surfing at Tres Palmas in Rincon, there is a place for surf no matter your level of experience. La Ocho in Old San Juan, Los Tubos in Manati, Hollows in Barceloneta, Jobos in Isabela, Wilderness in Aguadilla, and Caribbean surfing capital Rincon, are all popular and some have even hosted surfing competitions like the World Surfing Games. Be warned, most beaches don’t have sandy bottoms and swimming experience as well as surfing know-how is vital. Other than that, bring your surf with you or rent one at the beach and get ready to catch some waves.
