On your way back on Hwy. 395 North to Reno from South Lake Tahoe you will see what looks like a cute, yellow general store surrounded by friendly wooden bears, cigar Indians and maybe a moose or two. During the month of October the Nevada Lynn Emporium is also home to a large pumpkin patch and play area for children. This is a very popular stop for families to pick up a load of various sizes of pumpkins as well as gourds and squash for their holiday table.
The Emporium has been located in the Washoe Valley area for years and all year long features homemade pies and cakes, local honey, various types of pickles (including pickled okra) hand-carved statues and walking sticks and treats like nuts, jerky, chocolates and the best caramel apples. Visitors to the local campgrounds at Davis Creek or Washoe Valley can also pick up firewood and fresh fruits and vegetables here.
The Emporium is just down the road from Davis Creek and the Ophir Creek Trail which will take you up to the Tahoe Meadows area, Bower’s Mansion State Park with its silver baron mansion, museum, playground, picnic areas and pool, the Thunder Canyon golf area where you can dine at several restaurants, the Chocolate Nugget Candy Factory, and the Washoe Lake State Park.
