The Return of Bar del Fico
Food, Things to Do, What's New — By Erica Firpo on September 8, 2010 at 12:13 pmBar del Fico, one of Rome’s most historic bars in the Piazza Navona neighborhood, has re-opened after a nearly 2-year shut down for renovations on the palazzo and surrounding piazza. And the return is not a revival of a local caffe with neighborhood characters, but a complete overhaul– a reincarnation from la via boheme to a vie en rose.
The newly renovated Bar del Fico is giving off a very French vibe. What was once dingy walls with even dingier decoration, Bar del Fico’s decor has a kind of country kitchen feel, complete with signage in French. Around the corner, Fico has opened a very attractive looking restaurant and pizzeria– the stark decor harkens back to the pre-face lift Bar del Fico with mismatched chairs and sparse, industrial decoration. The menu is Roman, of course, with handmade pasta favorites (evviva la carbonara!) and pizzas. I wonder what the neighbors will say?
