The Chow Truck – The Best $5 Lunch in Salt Lake City

Food — By Amiee Maxwell on June 9, 2010 at 5:00 am

The Salt Lake City downtown area has a ton of phenomenal taco stands but recently there is a new mobile food wagon taking over the Salt Lake City streets.  The blaze yellow Chow Truck dishes up not your average mobile cuisine but some “Haute Asian Cuisine on the Go.”

The food is a blend of California style meets Asian cuisine and is fresh, colorful, and flavor packed.  Choose among tacos, sliders, or salads with your choice of coconut-lemon grass chicken, pineapple-ginger pork, spicy beef, with cilantro-chile pesto, panko fried tofu, or flash-fried calamari dusted with Asian spice.

The Tofu slider was super yum – a nice sized piece of tofu with a tangy cilantro pesto, tasty Asian slaw, plenty of wonton crunchies, and a cute little bun.  I also tried a calamari taco, but have to admit I was a little weary about trying fish out of a truck and it was a bit on the mushy side so I should have stuck with the tofu.  At only $2.50 a pop, you can easily try a couple of items and I was totally stuffed after two making the Chow Truck the tastiest $5 lunch in town.

I also recommend the Asian Spiced Root Chips – yukon potatoes, purple potatoes, carrots, yams, beets and lotus root packed with Asian spices for a whopping $2.50 as well.

The Chow Truck’s location varies daily so see their website for each week’s location.  Also follow Chow Truck on Twitter for location updates and daily specials.

It’s interesting and fun to see things from the other side of the gender coin. It’s often not too terribly different. Thanks, friend.
