Summertime Fun at Snowbird Ski Resort
Things to Do, What's New — By Amiee Maxwell on July 14, 2010 at 5:00 amThis past weekend I scored some All-Day Activities Passes at Snowbird Mountain Resort so I grabbed a good friend and headed up the mountain. As we rolled into the parking lot and stepped out of the car I was taken aback – what season is it? The parking lot was packed and all that cool, fresh mountain air almost knocked me out. I’ve been hanging in the city for far too long – I had forgotten how glorious these mountains are in the middle of July.
We pass by the bouncy house and climbing wall to take a ride up the Peruvian Chair. It is funny how frightening it is to ride on a ski lift without your skis on – it is even more frightening heading down. The air temperature drops drastically as we travel to nearly 11,000 feet and I think about the sweatshirt I decided to leave in the car.
We spent about 5 minutes on the top – enough time to run through the Tunnel and check out the view into Mineral Basin. Just like winter, as soon as you get to the other side you get blasted with icy wind and just want to head down.
We hop on the lift for a ride down the mountain, one of those things you can’t do in winter – well I guess on purpose that is. On the way down there are such incredible views of Little Cottonwood, Salt Lake City, and the Snowbird village it is totally worth the trip.
After you ride over one of the last cliffs Chickadee (the bunny hill) comes into view, which has been completely transformed into a summer carnival – an alpine slide and zip rider take the place of a hundred newbies on skis. There is some new strange balance-y fun house thing that I guess is the latest rage and a mechanical bull in the periphery. Yes a mechanical bull, which is surprisingly way harder than it looks.
There was over an hour wait for the alpine slide and zip rider and we were too old for most the other activities so we decided to partake in an adult activity I know too well. We headed over to the Tram Club for some margaritas on their lovely patio before heading over to the festival tent for some free live music.
