Every year at the Great American Beer Festival, hundreds of breweries from around the country are judged on a number of criteria and awarded prizes. Though many people wouldn’t guess it (especially those not from Utah), its breweries and brewpubs have been winning their share of awards in the last few years.

The most recent addition to the list is the Utah Brewer’s Cooperative -or the brewers of Wasatch Beers (originally of Park City) and Squatters Beers (of Salt Lake City)-which took the Best Mid-Size Brewery award in late 2010. If you’re stopping by its Salt Lake store to try offerings, it won gold medals for Squatter’s Wit and Summerbrau, as well as a bronze medal for Hell’s Keep.
You can also visit Squatter’s Brew Pub in Salt Lake, Park City, and even the Salt Lake Airport, as well as the Wasatch Brew Pub Cantina in Park City.
