If you’re just itching to get outside, but don’t want to wait for the free Twilight Concert Series, consider checking out the city’s other, absolutely amazing summer outdoor music tradition, the Red Butte Garden Concert Series. Nestled against the foothills on the northeast corner of Salt Lake City, the Red Butte Garden has hosted some of music’s all-time biggest, best, and most classic names -and this year’s lineup is no exception.

For example, the May 29th series kick-off  act is none other than the Moody Blues -a band that has toured the world’s greatest venues for decades. Other groups and musicians for 2011 include Ani Difranco, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Sheryl Crow, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Fleet Foxes, The Steve Miller Band, Bruce Hornsby, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Lyle Lovett, K.D. Lang, G. Love & Special Sauce, and Gipsy Kings. And this is only about half of the headlining artists scheduled to play this year. Allison Kraus finally concludes the busy series on September 4th.

Unlike the Twilight Concert Series, admission to this event is not free -and tickets can be rather pricey. With that in mind, series enthusiasts can purchase full season tickets or half season packages. And it’s no secret, too, that many, many people catch the show for free -by hiking above and behind the venue. Whether you want front-row seating, or a bandito-binocular viewpoint, you certainly must check online and mark your calendar!
