San Diego Padres Gear Up for Start of Season

San Diego’s Major League Baseball team is gearing up for the season opener as they take on the Phoenix Diamondbacks today at Arizona’s Chase Field. The Padres’ newest addition, free agent Jon Garland, was acquired in January and will hopefully rid this SoCal team of its most recent loss, pitcher Jake Peavy. Though the team won’t be playing at Petco park until next week (April 12) when they take on the Atlanta Braves, fans are bound to be scouting around PETCO Park hoping to catch a glimpse of some of the Padres folklore.

Before the games come home, head downtown where you can enjoy the game (via the tele) ┬ájust outside the park with bars perfect for viewing – The Yard House, Tilted Kilt, The Neighborhood or Basic Urban Kitchen & Bar are within walking distance from PETCO and feature fans galore thanks to its proximity and drink specials. Most boasting of the huge stadium as its backdrop, any of the restaurants or clubs just off Park Boulevard will feature the game and some great drink specials. At the Tilted Kilt, San Diego’s Ultimate Sports Bar, New Castle is the beer of the month; the Yard House is offering their daily happy hour from 3-6pm with $3.50 domestic pints, $4.25 well drinks and select half-prize appetizers and pizzas.
